My Philosophy of Nursing

Exploring nursing philosophy, is an activity that directs nurses towards gaining a better understanding of the foundation of nursing. Developing a personal nursing philosophy involves reflecting on the three different dimensions of the philosophical foundations of nursing. These three dimensions are the ontological dimension which explores the nature of nursing, the epistemological dimension which explores nursing’s unique body of specialized knowledge and the ethical dimension which explores beliefs, principles and values about nursing.

Exploring my personal  nursing philosophy has helped me to gain a better understanding of the foundation of nursing. The process of developing my own personal philosophy of nursing has involved an ongoing search for the truth about nursing. My professional values, moral, ethics and beliefs about nursing help to guide my practice and are a reflection of myself.

Nursing theory is the specialized body of knowledge that supports nursing practice and includes knowledge gained in various ways. My personal nursing philosophies have  evolved over time and I reflect on them frequently, to add clarity to my thoughts as my personal nursing philosophy informs, guides and defines my nursing practice.
